More About 5 Letter Words

By golly, you’ll find a bevvy of words with five letters just about everywhere. Did you catch all five of the 5 letter words in that sentence? Part of the challenge in playing your favorite word games, then, is to track down the best words using the letters you have. That’s when you can use a 5 letter word finder to unearth the most powerful 5 letter words you can play. Five letter words may not be the most exciting play, but they’re often the key to victory.

Unscramble Letters into Words

Many of the most popular word games involve figuring out how you can unscramble letters to find possible words. It could be a puzzle-style game where you need to find as many valid words as possible. Or it could be a more competitive, crossword game like Scrabble® or Words With Friends® where you need to outwit and outscore your opponent.

Can you find all the 5 letter words with these letters: BBEAK? You might be able to see 4 letter words like “beak” and “bake,” but there is actually only one valid word with 5 letters you can make with those letters. It’s KEBAB, short for shish kebab, a dish with roasted pieces of meat (or vegetables) on a skewer or spit.

What about all 5 letter words with the letters DEESW? Well, an expert jumble solver would find SWEDESEWED, and WEEDS in there. Which word you choose to play might depend on what words and letters are already on the game board.

5 Letter Words That Start With A

If the name of the game is to find cool 5 letter words, it makes sense to start from the beginning. Even when you’re only looking at 5 letter words that start with A, you’ll find that there are over 500 words you can play. Opportunities abound!

Start with a few words that mimic sounds you might make, like AARGH when you’re angry, ACHOO when you sneeze, or AIYEE when you’re frightened. Five letter verbs are nothing to ABHOR if you ABIDE by the rules. There’s no need to ABORT mission with all sorts of words with 5 letters.

Visit different AREAS from the ABBEY to the ABYSS, making it out ALIVE after facing an ALIEN being covered in ALGAE. A word like ABBEY is a great way to bid ADIEU to two B tiles, which can be hard to play. That’ll score you 13 points in Words With Friends® and 12 points in Scrabble®. Not bad for a 5 letter word! The game is AFOOT!

Hooked on More 5 Letter Words

One of the chief strategies for winning these types of word games is using hooks to form multiple words at once. If you become especially skilled at spotting places to play 2 letter words, you can build those out with more words.

If you see an available E on the game board, for example, you can add an N in front of it to make NE or after it to make EN. Then, if there’s room, you can look for 5 letter words containing N, like ACORNCONCHIRONY and URBAN. Form a word horizontally and vertically at the same time. That way, you get points for two words instead of just one. This core strategy applies to almost all 5 letter words, maximizing your score when playing hooks.

The letter S forms the basis for one of the most common hooks in the game. Some great 5 letter words with S you can play include ACHESBALSAFRISK and NASALUnscramble the letters you have and reveal big opportunities to win.
